About Ashton
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in southwest Ohio. I have been practicing since 2018 and have worked within school settings, a behavioral health agency, and private practices with people across the age continuum.
I have personally found the most rewarding clinical work to be that in which I’m helping my clients navigate their grief - in any of its many forms.
I always use a client-centered approach and almost always fall back on normalizing your emotions surrounding your experience. I’ve found most people, if not all, have incredibly understandable context for what brings them to therapy and for their narratives germane to their grief.
I primarily use techniques from evidence-based therapy modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Attachment Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR (EMDR-trained), Mindfulness, and Narrative Therapy.
How do I know we’ll connect as therapist and client?
We won’t know until we start working together, but the initial phone call is the first step! I promise this part isn’t something to be intimidated by either and I hope you feel comfortable to be honest and ask any questions you have.
First and foremost, though, know this - I want a good clinical fit for you no matter what. The therapeutic relationship has been shown over and over again to be the most vital factor in therapeutic progress. If you don’t mesh with me, I’ll provide you with alternative recommendations. Your therapy goals and overall therapeutic success matter to me, whether you become a client of mine or not.
Who am I outside of therapy?
A mother, a dog mom, rock climber, adventure racer, hiker, mountain biker, backpacker, overzealous crafter, video gamer, flower-lover, nature seeker, and overall very friendly person.
Conversationally, I enjoy a good callback and I use this in sessions at times, mostly because the gift of being thematically-oriented means I can bridge topics very well and connect details between themes. I think it also helps us create connection to be able to laugh together (yes, even in session, which isn’t uncommon in the slightest).
Poetry, quotes, and songs are additionally very impactful, in my opinion. I love learning about what’s meaningful to others in these realms too, whether it’s art, writing, pop culture references, etc.
Lastly, I learn best by experience, and tend to teach or guide this way, as well.
